Scalp Massage: The Pre-Operative "Pearl"

Prior to surgery we recommend that our patients improve their scalp laxity by firmly massaging their scalp. By carrying out this excercise for 15 - 20 minutes three or four times a day (for a total of one hour) beginning a few weeks prior to surgery, the patient can play a vital role in improving their surgical outcome.

Improving scalp laxity serves two important functions. Firstly, by allowing for the removal of a wider strip, the yield of "micrografts" will be greater. Secondly, by reducing tension along the donor region, the healing of the donor scar will be optimized.
