Women’s hair transplant surgery

Before surgery to increase density, 15 months after surgery

This woman came for consultation at the age of 39 years. She was taking spirinolactone and iron supplements, had noticed increased facial hair and was in an active period of shedding. Dr. Unger advised her to consult with an endocrinologist specializing in syndromes of androgen excess and follow up in 6 months. The next appointmentshe reported her shedding had largely ceased since starting both finasteride 1mg and rogaine 5%, and increasing her dose of spirinolactone to 200mg daily. She booked surgery for six months later, to be certain any of the hair lost temporarily would have ample time to recover. The risk of transplanting during periods of telogen effluvium is that some donor tissue will be discarded as alopecic, but in reality there are dormant follicles within that could not be identified. Her surgery yielded a terrific number of grafts – 1850 FU. The frontal block and temple regions were treated, as well as the part-line from anterior to posterior. Recent follow up 6 years later, confirms the results have been lasting.
